Black Tower
Local name: Černá věž
The black tower rises over 72 meters above České Budějovice. It is a former watchtower built in the 16th century. Currently, from her gallery you can enjoy views of the city and its surroundings.
The tower was completed in 1577. it is a stone building with a square base. It is covered by a Renaissance helmet. For centuries it served as an observation point in the event of an invasion or fire. Until 1956, a guard and his family lived there. He lived in a small flat on the top, ninth floor of the building.
Currently, the tower is open to tourists. It is surrounded by a wooden porch from which you can admire the extensive views. There is a souvenir shop in the former guard's apartment. The tower is also a characteristic landmark in the city and a dominant feature of the local market.
