Museum of Turopolje

Local name: Muzej Turopolja

The Turopolje Museum is devoted to the culture and history of the Turopolje region (extending between the cities of Zagreb and Sisak), and in particular the surroundings of Velika Gorica. The museum's collection includes about 3,500 archaeological and ethnographic exhibits that show the region's past. In addition, the museum has a collection of 20,000 photographs and negatives.

The Turopolje Museum presents its collections as part of three permanent exhibitions: archeological, ethnographic and cultural-historical. In addition, the museum also has an art gallery, comprising a collection of over 400 works, which mainly represent 20th-century painting and graphics.

The museum's headquarters is a two-story baroque brick building built in 1765. He served as the town hall until the mid-20th century, and there was a prison on the ground floor. In this building, the frescoes decorating the main hall deserve attention. The museum was created here in the 1960s.
