St. Cave Antoni owes its name to the chapel dedicated to Saint. Antoni, who is inside her. It is part of the tourist route leading along the promenade, which stretches along the banks of the channel of St. Antoni. The channel itself is about two kilometers long and extends from the Szybenicki Bridge to the fortress of St. Nicholas.
St. Cave Antoni's is one of the many geological curiosities located on the coast of Šibenik and along the canal. The surrounding caves were formerly inhabited by people. St. Cave Antoni was also used by hermits, the most famous of whom was Jeronim Detrico, an aristocrat from Zadar. He died in 1615 and was buried in a cave.
Few people know, even among the inhabitants of Šibenik, that the channel and chapel in the cave were named after the hermit, Saint Anthony the Great (also known as Saint Anthony of Egypt), and not the more famous Saint Anthony of Padua.
