Petrova Gora is a mountain range in central Croatia. This place is known mainly because of the very characteristic monument commemorating World War II and the fighting that is taking place here. The monument was made of reinforced concrete and covered with stainless steel plates. Inside, however, was a museum with an exhibition related to the struggle for the liberation of the people. At the top there is a viewpoint that offers a view of Slovenia, Bosnia and Zagreb.
Petrova Gora was once called Gvozd. Petrova is called her because it is the place of heroic death of the last native king of Croatia - Peter in the battle in the Gvozd Mountains in 1097. During World War II there was a communist guerilla base here. For this reason, among others, the monument described above, created by Vojin Bakić, was erected here. The construction of the monument was completed in 1981.
