Stari grad Lukavec is a former defensive fort, also called the castle Lukavec. It is located in the center of Turopolja and it is the only castle in the whole area, which was once the central point of the commune. The fortress is Renaissance, and its most characteristic point is the high entrance tower. There is the chapel of Saint Lucia, patron of Turopolje. On the first floor there was also a nobility's assembly hall, and until 1848 the archives were kept in the fortress.
The first mention of the castle comes from 1256, although the exact time of its construction is unknown. The remains of the palisades and wooden driveway bridge, which were discovered during the reconstruction, testify that the first building was built of oak wood. Stari grad Lukavec has been restored under the supervision of the Department of Monument Protection in Zagreb and today it looks great. It is open to the public.
