Schonbrunn Palace Gloriette is one of the largest and most famous gloriettes in the world. The baroque garden building was erected in 1775. It was located on a hill 60 m high behind the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. From the café located in the pavilion you can admire the beautiful French garden, the Habsburg family ancestral palace and the panorama of Vienna.
The garden gloriette was created in tribute as a monument to a just war that led to peace. Along with the takeover of power by Maria Teresa, the war of Austrian succession broke out, followed by the Seven Years' War. The inscription on the front of the gloriette: "Built during the reign of Emperor Joseph II and Empress Maria Teresa 1775". The engraved inscription refers to the first Roman emperor, whose heirs and successors were considered by the Habsburgs.
