Sankt Florian is a small town with an impressive baroque monastery of St. Florian. It is one of the largest in Austria, and in its vicinity you can visit several interesting museums.

The town takes its name from the monastery founded in the 11th century. He stood on the tomb of St. Florian, a Roman legionary and martyr who died for his faith and drowned in the Anizia River. Initially, in the monastery of St. Florian was inhabited by the Benedictines, but with time they were replaced by the Augustinians, who are the hosts here to this day. In its present form, the monastery, the greatest attraction and main monument of Saint Florian, was rebuilt in the 17th century.

The visit to the monastery in Sankt Florian includes an impressive baroque church, a library and a Fire Brigade Museum. It was opened in memory of St. Florian, who is the patron saint of firefighters. You can see the old equipment and uniforms of firefighters there.

In addition to the monastery in Sankt Florian, you can visit several interesting museums. These are the Hunting Museum in a former hunting lodge and the Sumerauerhof Open-Air Museum in a historic farmyard. The Renaissance-Baroque Castle on the outskirts of the town is partially open to the public and is surrounded by a large park and is now privately owned.
