Gallery of the Archbishop's Residence
Local name: Residenzgalerie
The Archbishop's Residence Gallery has a rich collection of European paintings that can be viewed as part of permanent and temporary exhibitions. The oldest paintings in the collection come from the 16th century, and the latest from the 19th century. They represent Flemish, Dutch, Italian, French and Austrian paintings. Here you can see the works of artists such as Rembrandt, Carel Fabritius, Carlo Saraceni and Hieronymus Francken II.
The gallery is part of a group of museums and other institutions that collaborate and exchange collections. Other members of this group include the Academy of Fine Arts and the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna, as well as the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan. Thanks to this cooperation, the Gallery organizes various temporary exhibitions.
The gallery has its roots in the 18th century, and its nucleus was the collection of Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo, which was already available to visitors at the Archbishop's Residence.
