DomQuartier is the name of the museum complex, which includes neighboring museums located in the Salzburg Cathedral and the Archbishop's Residence, as well as the Museum of St. Peter. The objects included in DomQuartier are on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to their architectural and cultural value.
Visiting DomQuartier begins in the baroque representative rooms of the Archbishop's Residence, then leads through the Gallery of Residence with a very valuable collection of European paintings to the Cathedral Museum and ends at the Museum of St. Peter. In the cathedral's oratory, you can see baroque art and sacred art collections. The Cathedral Museum, in turn, presents 1300 years of Salzburg history.
The DomQuartier region owes its appearance to two Salzburg archbishops. They were Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau and Guidobald Graf von Thun, who lived at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. They have expanded and renovated the local monuments.
