Krimml is a small town on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park in the Austrian Alps. It is a year-round holiday and ski resort, near which the famous Krimmler Wasserfälle waterfalls are located.
The town began to develop as a winter sports center after World War I, when the first ski slopes were built in the vicinity of the nearby Gerlos Pass. Today, the Hochkrimml ski resort operates here, which is connected to one of Austria's most famous ski regions, the Zillertal Arena. In total, they have over 150 km of ski slopes of varying difficulty, snow parks, as well as accommodation and catering facilities.
In summer Krimml is visited by lovers of mountain hiking. The surrounding valleys and peaks are the destination of excursions and places from which you can admire spectacular landscapes. One of the most famous places in the area is the Krimmler Wasserfälle waterfalls. They are 380 m high and rank among the highest in Europe. They fall down the vertical rock wall through a narrow stream that changes direction twice.
An attraction of the area is also the route to the Gerlos-Gerlosstrasse pass. Routed along the mountain slopes, it offers wonderful views of Hohe Tauern. The road starts a few kilometers after the village, where there is a toll station.
