Karpun, which lies at the foot of the Hohe Tauern, forms one of the most popular and oldest ski areas in Austria together with the nearby Zell am See. The season here currently lasts almost all year due to the location of some routes on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. In the summer, in turn, the entire valley is a place where you can practice broadly understood mountain tourism.
Kaprun lies at the foot of the Grossglockner Massif, Austria's highest peak, which reaches 3798 m above sea level. The area also has over 100 kilometers of hiking trails leading both through valleys and towards alpine peaks. Some of them are adapted for mountain biking, while some hills are favored by hang-gliders and paragliders.
Most tourists come to Kaprun from late autumn to spring, when the ski runs are located both on the glacier and on the slopes of the mountains. In total, there are several hundred kilometers of downhill and cross-country skiing trails in the entire valley. The resorts are serviced by gondola, chair and T-bar lifts, and equipment rentals, ski schools and catering facilities are located on the slopes. Some routes in Kaprun are also adapted for snowboarders, there are snow parks and freeride enthusiasts have their routes. The town has an ice rink and spa resorts with swimming pools, which allow you to relax after time spent on the slopes.
