Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle has been the residence of the English kings since 1100. This is where Queen Elizabeth II most often receives guests. It is the largest inhabited castle in the world - it is 800 meters long and has 19 towers. The largest room, Hall of St. George, is nearly 60 m long. The castle has valuable art collections. It is also worth seeing the changing of the guard in front of the castle. The facility is open to the public.
The castle houses built by Edward III chapel of St. George, the main seat of the Order of the Garter, i.e. the knights' order that still exists today. The Garter Order is one of the most important British state decorations. Windsor Castle was also the favorite residence of King Henry VIII Tudor, who expanded it, among others for a tennis court.
The name of the current royal dynasty comes from the castle name. When anti-German sentiment intensified in the country after the end of World War I, the royal family changed their name from Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.
