Blists Hill Victorian Town
Blists Hill Victorian Town is an open air museum set in the industrial estate of Madeley. In this unique place we will experience the atmosphere of the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - here we can find monuments, sounds and smells of the Victorian city of Shropshire. The museum was officially opened in 1973 and has enjoyed unwavering popularity among tourists ever since.
Blists Hill was once a highly industrial region: people worked here in brick factories, fire clay and iron mines. Some of the places that we will see in a Victorian city are just original buildings. In addition to them, Victorian buildings have been specially moved or restored to Blists Hill Victorian Town. In addition to the industrial district, the museum also includes an urban district (you will find, among others, a bank, bakery or post office) and a rural district (here it is worth paying attention to the church with a tin roof). The atmosphere of the place is so convincing that Blists Hill has been used many times as a setting for historical films and series.
