O2 Arena
The O2 Arena, formerly known as the Millennium Dome, is a large sports and entertainment hall, built in 1999 to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium. There are thirty rooms in it, the largest of which, the O2 Arena, is planned for 24,000. viewers. The building is considered a symbol of contemporary London architecture, and at the same time one of the largest buildings in the world.
Twelve poles grow out of the characteristic white tent-shaped dome, each about one hundred meters long. They symbolize individual months of the year or hours on the clock face. In turn, the roof diameter, measuring 365 m in length, refers to the number of days per year.
Initially, the hall housed the so-called millennium exhibition dedicated to the achievements of the British. The building acquired its current spectacular and sporting character in 2005 after the change of ownership. In 2009, the World Gymnastics Championships were held here, and the biggest music stars such as Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and Queen also played concerts.
