Wesley's Chapel
Wesley's Chapel is a Methodist church located in the Shoreditch district. His crypt houses the Methodist Museum, devoted to the history of this movement, and next to it is the house transformed into a museum of John Wesley - the creator of Methodism. The chapel built in 1778 still fulfills its function and is a meeting place and prayer of the followers of the movement. In 1951 Margaret Thatcher got married here.
Its architecture is part of the Georgian style, while Wesley's house is a well-preserved example of a bourgeois house from the 18th century. Both buildings are inscribed on the list of Class I monuments. In the cobbled courtyard, in front of the entrance to the chapel, there is a Wesley monument. Created in 1891, it was classified as a class II monument.
The Methodist Museum was founded in 1898. The collection contains nearly 15,000 items related to the Methodist movement and its creator. You can see Wesley's posthumous mask, his writings and sermons, ceramics, paintings, and items used during services.
