Saatchi Gallery
Galeria Saatchi is a private gallery of contemporary art. Charles Saatchi, a collector and creator, opened it in 1985 to make his collection available to the public. Admission to permanent exhibitions is free. Saatchi focuses on promoting beginner, unknown artists. Many of them, just after the exhibition in the gallery, began their careers.
The Saatchi Gallery has occupied the Duke of York Headquarters building in Solance Square since 2008. It dates from 1801 and is on the list of Class II monuments. Initially it housed a military school. During World War I, British troops had their headquarters there, and during World War II - a military court. Large rooms and high ceilings of the building are great as museum spaces and allow visitors to focus only on art.
