Portobello Market
The street market on Portobello Road consists of five sections, each of which operates on a different day of the week. The whole is open simultaneously only on Saturdays. Individual departments include: antiques, flea market and second-hand items, clothing, household appliances and food, both fruit and vegetables, and ready meals. Shops and numerous cafes are open every day. The antique market is the largest in Great Britain.
The bazaar's history dates back to the 19th century. Initially, it mainly sold food products. Antiques and other goods for which he is now so famous appeared only in the 1940s. Portobello Market appeared among others in the children's story of Bear Paddington, the novel by Paolo Coello "The Witch of Portobello" and in the film "Notting Hill" from 1999.
