St Bride's Church
Church St. Bridget is a baroque temple built in 1672 according to the design of Sir Christopher Wren. It measures 69 meters high, which makes it the second largest church designed by this architect, and it is only surpassed by the Cathedral of St. Paul. The crypt in the basement is open to the public and houses the Museum of Fleet Street. You can see exhibits from the Middle Ages.
It is at least the seventh temple built in this place. The first was probably built in the sixth century, so it was one of the oldest Christian churches in London. According to tradition, the church was founded by St. Bridget, more likely, however, is the version that the Irish monks did. Interestingly, the remains of the first temple have many similarities to a church built around the same time in Kildare, Ireland. The current church was built after the Great Fire of London, when the previous building completely burned down.
