Bank of England Museum

The Bank of England Museum is housed in the Bank of England and has an exhibition and educational character. Its purpose is to present the history of the institution since 1694, when it was founded, and the people associated with it. The collections are divided into several parts. Stock Office is a reconstruction of the eighteenth-century bank office, where exhibits in chronological order are placed showing the history of the institution. The next exhibition presents a collection of banknotes, coins, documents and books. They include silver and pure gold ingots.

The decision to establish the Bank of England Museum was made in the 1980s. The previously collected collection was only available to selected guests after prior booking and in the company of a guide. Plans to open the museum were thwarted by a fire, which partly destroyed the bank building and the place intended for exhibitions. Finally, the facility was opened in 1988.
