All Hallows by Tower Church

All Hallows by Tower Church is considered the oldest temple in London, which dates back to the year 675. Testimony to the long history of the church is a fragment of the preserved Saxon arch, dating back to the seventh century. In the crypt, in the chapel of St. Klara, a fragment of the Roman floor from the second century has survived. In All Hallows by Tower Church, Thomas More (called Morus) is buried - writer, politician, author of the famous "Utopia".

Beside Morus, there is also cardinal John Fisher - both were beheaded in 1535 by order of Henry VIII after they refused to sign the act declaring the king to be the head of the Anglican Church. Fisher's naked body was exposed to public view, and then his head was stuck on a spear on the Tower Bridge. Morus and Fisher are now saints of the Catholic Church.

The altar in the crypt of the church was built of stone from Athilit - the famous Templar fortress, erected in the 13th century a short distance from today's Haifa.
