ArcelorMittal Orbit
Arcelor Mittal Orbit is the largest example of a piece of public art in Great Britain. It measures 114.5 meters high and is connected to the lookout tower. There are two observation platforms, each of which can seat 150 people. The whole consists of two elements - a tower with elevators and platforms and a red steel structure wrapping around it. In 2016, a 178 m tunnel for exits was added to it.
Arcelor Mittal Orbit was created on the occasion of the Summer Olympic Games in London in 2012. It was built according to a design by Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond. He was chosen in the competition for the so-called "Olympic tower", to which 50 proposals were submitted. According to Kapoor, designers were inspired, among others The Tower of Babel and they wanted to build something impossible and unique.
The tower is also called "Orbit Tower" or just "Orbit". It is humorously described by some as "Boris's Johnson."
