Wimbledon and Putney Commons
Wimbledon Common is an open membrane, together with two other areas forming the so-called Wimbledon and Putney Commons. The whole area covers about 460 hectares. There are several ponds and an old mill here. There are football, rugby and cricket pitches within the grounds. Runs are regularly organized here, and hiking and horse riding routes have been marked out.
Commons is the base of the world's oldest cross-country club known as Thames Hare and Hounds. Every Saturday morning, a 5 kilometer run is organized, which starts and ends at the historic mill. Over three hundred people take part in it. Two golf clubs are also located here.
Most of the Wimbledon Common area is called "Special area of habitat protection" and "Place of exceptional scientific significance". It is particularly important due to the deer fawn population.
