Richmond Park
Richmond Park is the largest park in the UK and the largest fenced park in Europe. There are many walking, cycling and horse riding paths. From the mound called King Henry's Mound there is a panoramic view of part of the city. The park also has ten historic buildings, including Pembrock Lodge, in which the then Prime Minister John Russel lived in the mid-nineteenth century.
The park has gained the status of a Special Area of Habitat Conservation, where special attention is given to deer stag. It is also a reserve, so it is forbidden to let dogs leash on its premises. Many animal species live here, including deer, fallow deer and rabbits. There are 144 species of birds here, including ringed parakeets alexandrettes.
Until the 15th century this area was called Manor of Sheer, the name Richmond was given to him only during the reign of Henry VII. In the first half of the 17th century, the royal court temporarily moved to the local palace, and the park was surrounded by a stone wall.
