Jubilee Gardens
Jubilee Gardens is a public park located on the south bank of the River Thames. There are vast open spaces and avenues with trees. You can see here the International Brigades Memorial, a memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the International Brigades who died during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. This is especially true for the soldiers of the British Battalion, which was significantly affected at that time.
The Jubilee Gardens was built in 1977 as part of the celebration of the silver jubilee of Elizabeth II. Earlier there was the Dome of Discovery, which housed an exhibition devoted to the British contribution to exploration and research in various scientific fields. The building was later demolished and a park was created in its place. Just before the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2002, the site underwent a major restructuring that consumed several million pounds.
