Museum of the Home
The Geffrye Museum presents the realities of everyday life in the urban middle class from 1600 to the present day. Individual exhibitions allow observing the changes that have occurred over the years in the furniture and the general nature of the apartments. There is also a rebuilt 18th century poorhouse. The museum building is adjoined by a garden divided into sections, also reflecting the changes that have occurred in the home gardens and showing their role.
The museum is located in a building inscribed on the list of first-class monuments. It was built in 1714 on the initiative of the then mayor of London, Sir Robert Geffrye. Originally it housed a poorhouse. The same one that has been restored for the needs of the exhibition.
In the museum, in the section devoted to the 20th century, there is also a cafe and a shop. You can buy in it souvenirs and books on architecture, interior design and herbs.
