Whitechapel Gallery

A public art gallery located in the north of Whitechapel High Street. Designed by Charles Harrison Townsend and opened in 1902 as one of the first places of this type, publicly funded, intended for temporary exhibitions. It was here that the works of such artists as Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Jackson Pollock were premiered.

Visitors will find here exhibitions of contemporary art by artists from around the world, as well as multimedia exhibitions and historical archives. The gallery also provides educational resources and runs art courses. There will also be good coffee in the cafe inside and books for the road from the themed bookstore.

Among the most eminent cultural events at the Whitechapel Gallery we can mention the premiere of the work of Pablo Picasso Guernica from 1938, as well as the Independent Group exhibition, thanks to which the world opened to a completely new direction in the art called Pop Art.
