King’s Cross Station
King's Cross Station is a train station from the mid-nineteenth century. At the time of opening it was the largest railway station in the country. Currently there are 11 platforms and a metro station. The western part of the station is occupied by an extensive hall with a semicircular glass roof built on a steel structure. According to architect John Aslan, the station currently has the longest single-span structure in Europe.
The station appeared in a series of novels about Harry Potter. In the story created by JK Rowling it housed the magical platform 9 and ¾, from which the train to Hogwarts, the School of Magic and Wizardry departed. The station also appears in film adaptations of the novel. As a souvenir, a commemorative plaque and a luggage cart protruding halfway from the wall were embedded in one of the walls. There is also a store dedicated to Harry. King's Cross also appears as one of the places in the British version of the game "Monopoly".
