Crystal Palace Museum
The Crystal Palace Museum located on Anerley Hill in London. In the only surviving building erected by the Crystal Palace Company in 1880, we can hear the story of the now-unique Crystal Palace, built of unusual materials: cast iron and flat glass.
Crystal Palace was designed by Joseph Paxton. The building was to fulfill a unique task: a huge Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations was exhibited there. Over 14,000 exhibitors from around the world came in 1851 to show the technological achievements of the Industrial Revolution. During the six-month exhibition Crystal Palace was visited by over 6 million people. Until 1936, the building was a London architectural pearl. It was almost completely destroyed in a spectacular fire.
The exhibition, which can be viewed in the museum, uses unique paintings of Crystal Palace, large scaled models of the building, as well as remnants drawn from the ashes or objects related to the palace.
