Bern Historical Museum

Local name: Bernisches Historisches Museum

The Bern Historical Museum is the second largest gallery in Switzerland dedicated to history. The building, designed by architect André Lambert in 1894, was originally intended to become the Swiss Science Museum. Ultimately, this gallery was created in Zurich. In the museum collection, tourists can admire exhibits related to the history of Bern from ancient times to the present day.

The Bern Historical Museum is one of the most important cultural centers in Switzerland. The entire gallery collection has almost 500,000 historical objects. The presented specimens refer to many cultures, they come from Europe, but also from Asia, Oceania, America and Egypt. The Einstein Museum, integrated with the gallery, introducing the characters' lives and achievements, remains an important part of the tourist attraction.

The most important items exhibited at the Berne Historical Museum include, among others, Tapestries from Burgundy, a number of ethnographic items and original money from various eras. The museum presents its collections using various multimedia and digital techniques.
