Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sophia in Stockholm belonging to the Church of Sweden. Located in the Vita Berget 1 quarter, at Klefbecks backe, in the Stockholm district of Södermalm. Named after the wife of King Oscar II, Sophie Wilhelmina Nassau. It has the status of a sacred monument and is considered one of the most important churches in Stockholm.
The construction of the church began in 1902 under the supervision of the architect Gustaf Hermansson, who designed the building in the Neo-Romanesque style in the Rhenish version with a 77-meter-high tower-dome crowning the monument. His design won the competition in 1899 and work began a few years later, the church was not handed over until 1906. The interior of the temple was restored in 1948-1951, and the works were supervised by Lars Israel Wahlman, a Swedish architect, whose life's work is considered to be the Engelbrekt Church in Stockholm.
