Marstrand is a coastal town known as the sailing capital of Sweden. One of the most popular marinas in the country is located here. The city is also famous for the seventeenth-century fortress rising monumentally above the buildings.

The origins of the city date back to the Middle Ages, but its rapid development only began after the construction of the Carlsten Fortress in the 17th century. It was named after King Charles X Gustav, and today it is open to tourists. Along with the fortress in the city, a port was built, which received numerous privileges.

The first summer vacationers started to come to Marstrand in the 19th century. The seaside location and proximity to Gothenburg quickly made it a fashionable seaside resort. It remains so to this day and is famous for its beautiful, wooden spa buildings. The city is situated on the islands between which you can travel by ferry.

The biggest attraction of Marstrand is the local marina and yachts mooring in it. According to the calculations, the city has the highest number of boats registered per capita in the whole of Sweden. In summer, the boats serve, among others, to go out to the surrounding islets to sunbathe on the rocks. Around the port there are many restaurants, bars and cafes that are lively until late in the evening.
