Viaducto de Segovia in Madrid is a 23-meter high and 35-meter long bridge made of polished concrete, the bases of the pillars are covered with granite blocks. The structure of the span consists of three arches, the whole was designed in the spirit of modernism. It has a view of the Casa de Campo.
Today's viaduct is the third construction that was built here. The first plans were created in the 18th century, but they were implemented only in the 1870s as part of the revitalization of the city. As a result of detecting technical defects, the structure had to be replaced by a new one - it was erected in the 1930s. During the civil war the viaduct was damaged, today we can see its restored form.
The image of the bridge is present in the films of Pedro Almodóvar, including "Matador" and "Wysokie Obcasy". He also became famous as a suicide bridge. Because tragedy often happened here, the city authorities decided to set security in the form of screens limiting access to the barrier.
