The Alcalá 31 exhibition hall in Madrid was created to promote and share contemporary art. For this purpose, the works exhibited here are available to visitors free of charge. This site presents works designed to emphasize the variety of forms of expression that characterize current art - painting, sculptures, drawings, photographs, installations, films, graphics and multidisciplinary projects. There are works of not only recognized artists, but also novices noticed and appreciated by critics.
The exhibition is located in a characteristic building by Antonio Palacios, built in 1935-1943 for the headquarters of Mercantile and Industrial Bank. He currently belongs to the Community of Madrid. After a thorough reconstruction carried out by the architects José Luis de Onzoño and Iñiguez Ignacio de Las Casas, the building was reopened in 2002, as the seat of the then Department of Arts and the exhibition hall.
