Madrid Rio is a park created on both sides of the Manzanares River in 2006-2011. Modern recreation areas with playgrounds, playgrounds and bicycle paths as well as bridges have been created here, which are real works of architecture. The new facilities were harmoniously combined with the monuments.
Noteworthy are the pedestrian and cyclist bridge decorated with recycled glass mosaic and the nearly 280-meter Arganzel bridge with walkways hidden inside giant spiral structures. There are 17 playgrounds for children, climbing walls, a skatepark, a place to play petanque, a basketball court, a multi-purpose court, a fitness zone. You can admire the monuments and walk along the 6-meter promenade surrounded by trees.
The park covers an area of 120 hectares. Two architectural offices are responsible for its design: Team West 8 from the Netherlands and Mrio Arquitectos from Madrid. During the project, over 33,000 trees were planted, 5,500 benches were set up along the river bank.
