The Atocha station building is located in the center of Madrid. It is the largest Spanish railway station, offering connections to all major cities in Spain. Among other stations, it is not only the size, but also a tropical garden, which was arranged in the main hall. In the historic part you can visit shops, bars and discos.
Tourists traveling around Spain will be able to relax, admiring about 400 species of exotic plants. There are also water turtles in the station garden. The station has been adapted to service high-speed AVE trains (Alta Velocidad Española), which can travel at speeds up to 320 km / h.
The building was built in the 1850s. At the end of the 1980s, due to the development of the Spanish railway, it was expanded and modernized. In 2004 a tragedy happened here, as a result of a terrorist attack 191 people were killed.
