The Arte Canal Exhibition Center (Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal) was established by the Madrid-based company Canal Isabel II. Interesting temporary exhibitions in various fields and presentations of works by famous photographers are organized here. Exhibits are brought from museums all over the world. The exhibition space is located in the old water tank from the canals.
The red brick building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century by the engineer Diego Martín Montalvo and the architect Ramón de Aguinaga. It is a monument of industrial architecture. In the 1980s, it was renovated with a view to arranging the exhibition space. The architects Javier Alau and Antonio Lopera were responsible for the renovation works.
The Canal Isabel II company deals not only with the promotion of art and science, its main goal is to make the public aware of the importance of caring for the natural environment, and also teach how to use water resources responsibly.
