CaixaForum is Madrid's center of culture and art located in the southern part of Paseo del Prado. Not only the local exhibitions are a tourist attraction, but also the building design - its axis is a staircase connecting all levels, the style of which refers to the architecture of the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
The center was opened in 2008, temporary exhibitions are organized here. Its owner is the bank "La Caixa", which manages the center through its own foundation. On seven levels there are exhibition and conference rooms, an auditorium for 311 listeners, as well as a cafe and restaurant. A wall was erected in front of the building, which covers about 15,000 plants.
The building where the CaixaForum headquarters is located is the former Central Station. It was renovated and rebuilt according to the design of Swiss architects: Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. Its shape seems to float in the air, thanks to a specially constructed concrete base.
