At the National Museum of Anthropology in Madrid (Museo Nacional de Antropología) you can admire 21,000 objects from America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. There is also an exhibition of physical anthropology, with an exhibition of skulls, skeletons and mummies.
The remaining halls contain old, antique dishes, carnival masks, decorations, clothes, musical instruments and toys - all these items show in detail the culture and customs of various ethnic groups from around the world.
It was the first museum of this profile that was established in Spain. It was founded in 1875 by the Spanish physician and anthropologist Pedro González de Velasco. The building was designed by the architect Francisco de Cubas and was to act as both a doctor's residence and exhibition space.
