Plaça de la Virreina in the Gracia district of Barcelona is a small square where the historic building of the church of Sant Joan de Gracia from the beginning of the 20th century reigns. The square also has numerous cafes where you can relax with a coffee and try traditional Spanish tapas.
The church of Sant Joan de Gracia stands in the place where once stood the magnificent residence of the wife of the viceroy of Peru - Manuel de Amat and Junyent. The name of the square is derived from the person of the palace owner, in Spanish virreina means "viceroy".
In the second half of the nineteenth century, the palace was taken over and demolished on the order of the Capuchin order. In its place stood the first temple, which, however, as a result of fire and then warfare was completely destroyed. The church was rebuilt in the 20th century.
