"El Cap de Barcelona" or "Barcelona's Head" is a surreal sculpture by the famous American artist Roy Lichtenstein. It was created in preparation for the Summer Olympic Games, which took place in the capital of Catalonia in 1992. Is a showcase of Paseo Colon.
The sculpture is 15 meters high and 6 meters wide. The work is a clear reference to the art of Catalan modernism and surrealism. The top layer of the sculpture was made of ceramic mosaic, the colors used: white, blue, yellow and red bring to mind the creativity of Joan Miró.
"Barcelona's Head" was Roy Lichtenstein's first outdoor work. It belongs to the collection entitled "Brushstrokes". The female face resembles characters depicted in comics, which is a characteristic feature of the artist's work.
