Saint Catherine's Market is located in the Old Town of Barcelona. This is the city's oldest indoor marketplace. Its characteristic feature is the new, wavy roof built in 2005 lined with colorful mosaic symbolizing 67 shades of fruit and vegetables sold here.
The market started operating in the mid-nineteenth century on the site of a destroyed monastery. It was the oldest covered marketplace in the city. Demolished during World War II, it was rebuilt, and in 2005 it gained a new roof.
The market covers a 300 by 300 square meter. There are 60 stands here. Fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and seafood are sold. About 200 people supply them here every month.
