Royal Square is located in the center of Barcelona. Is one of the main meeting places of the city's residents. It is surrounded by arcaded arcades with numerous restaurants and cafes. The central part of the square is occupied by the Three Graces Fountain, with palm trees growing around it.
The square was built in the nineteenth century on the site of the demolished Capuchin monastery. In its present shape it has been operating since the turn of the century. The arcades are a popular resting place on hot days. Tourists also come here to see the fountain and lamps designed by Antonio Gaudi. They are six-pointed lanterns decorated with symbols of the god of commerce, Mercury, a caduceus and a helmet. Philatelic and numismatic exchanges take place at the square on weekends.
