Mosaic of the Pla de l'O by Joan Miró

Local name: Mosaic del Pla de l'O de Joan Miró

Mosaic de Joan Miró o del Pla de l'Os is a colorful pavement mosaic that was created in 1976. Miró was responsible for the design, while Joan Gardy Artigas was responsible for the implementation. It is kept in the colors characteristic of Miró's work, it is a combination of white with red, yellow and blue. The mosaic is one of the showpieces of La Rambla.

The mosaic was made of terrazzo tiles, different colors were obtained thanks to the broken colored glass. The work is not secured in any way, according to the artist's idea it is an integral part of the pavement. However, regular maintenance and color refreshment is necessary.

Miró only saw the finished mosaic a month after it was finished. He came to the city and stopped at La Rambla to observe the reactions of passersby. Some have reportedly criticized the unevenly stacked tiles.
