The Wicekrólowa Palace is located on Barcelona's Rambla pedestrian street. It is a building erected in the second half of the 18th century in a style combining baroque and rococo elements. Currently, it houses the Cultural Institute of the Barcelona City Council. In addition to offices, there are exhibition areas where temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists are presented.
The palace was built by Peruvian viceroy Manuel Amata Junyent for his wife. The aristocrat managed works from South America with the help of the trusted architect Carles Grau. He created a building that was clearly different from the then Barcelona buildings.
The palace is a rectangular building with a stone facade decorated with pilasters and finished with a balustrade with twelve vases. The interiors were largely rebuilt in the 20th century. They were adapted to the needs of exhibition halls. The Palace presents exhibitions of paintings, graphics, sculptures and photographs of contemporary Catalan artists. Concerts are also held here.
