The Design Museum in Barcelona is a modern cultural institution combining exhibition and educational functions. It is also a hub for the exchange of ideas and experiences between designers from around the world. The museum building was put into use in 2014. It is an industrial building, built mainly of metal and glass.
The Design Museum is an innovative solution that draws on the long-standing design traditions for which Barcelona was famous. It combines the collections of several previously operating exhibition institutions, including the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Museum of Textiles, the Graphic Museum and Casa Bloc.
A modern, futuristic building was erected on Placa de les Glories in 2014. It has two underground storeys, a pond on the ground floor, a spacious exhibition hall and a passage, and overground rooms located in an inclined cuboid. Apart from the exhibition space, it also houses an archive, library, auditoriums, workshops and conference rooms.
