La Monumental

Local name: La Monumental

Monumental is a former arena where corrides took place. Located at Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. It is the only arena in the world built in the Art Nouveau style. Currently, it houses a small Corrida Museum, and the object is open to the public.

The arena was built in 1914 in the fashionable Art Nouveau style. It was built of brick and decorated with white and blue mosaics. At six points on the perimeter of the building, square towers crowned with white and blue domes. Their staggered windows and covers resemble Moorish buildings.

In 2011, bull fighting was banned in Catalonia. Then the owner of the object decided to renovate it and make it available to visitors. You can enter the stands and the arena. In the former rooms of the arena there is a small museum presenting the costumes and equipment used by bullfighters, photos and posters from the corridor and souvenirs related to the arena itself.
