PIRAN tourist attractions

+15 attractions

Piran belongs to the most famous places of the Slovenian coast. The small Old Town is located on a rocky promontory, and its buildings resemble Venice. There are several nice beaches on land that attract lovers of relaxation.

The city resembles Italy with its atmosphere, and Italian is, next to Slovene, the second official language. All this is due to history - in the Middle Ages Piran belonged to Venice, which translated into a characteristic building. The following centuries, despite the fall of the Venetian state, did not cause the city to be separated from Italy. It was not until 1954 that pursuant to the agreements Piran joined the then Yugoslavia.

The heart of Piran is Tartinijev Square surrounded by Renaissance and Baroque tenement houses. Here stands the monument of the violinist Giuseppe Tartini, as well as the monumental town hall. Above the buildings the church of St. George and the belfry reminiscent of the one from St. Mark's Square Mark in Venice.

Inside the city walls of former Piran there is a tangle of narrow, cobbled streets with stone houses. Many of them now have restaurants and bars, and the area comes alive mainly in the afternoons and evenings when tourists return from the beaches. These are mostly rocky and gravel in Piran, and quite narrow. Good development, close proximity to picturesque coastal towns and good accommodation base mean that each year they are filled with thousands of vacationers.
