The origins of the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum date back to 1821. There are about forty thousand objects there. The collection includes Chinese furniture, porcelain, clothing, Tibetan Buddhist sculptures and Japanese paintings. There are also famous collections donated, among others, by Anton Laurin, Ignacy Knoblehar, Peter Turk and Ignacy Golob.
The museum exhibits two permanent exhibitions: "Between nature and culture" and "I, we and others - images of my world". Every year, at the invitation of the museum, where three to eight exhibitions are organized, guests from Belgium, Poland, Macedonia, China, the Czech Republic, Japan, Bulgaria and Italy come together.
An interesting fact is the two Internet exhibitions "Shareholders in Slovenia" and "Rocnadela.org".
The Slovenian Ethnographic Museum has been a member of the Association of European Migration Organizations (AEMI) since 2002 and belongs to the Network of European Ethnographic Museums (NET)
