The facility located at the Budatín Castle presents exhibitions of handicrafts, exhibitions of nature and archeology as well as exhibits related to the history of Žilina and its surroundings. The museum has branches in the Wedding Palace in Bytča and in the village of Terchová, the birthplace of Juraj Janosik (there is a permanent exhibition dedicated to him).
