Clock Museum - House of Good Shepherd
Local name: Múzeum hodín - Dom U dobrého pastiera
The Clock Museum is a branch of the Bratislava City Museum. It is located in the 18th century House of the Good Shepherd within the Old Town. It is a collection of clocks and instruments for measuring time from the 17th to the 19th century. You can see, among others, the clock mechanism from the church tower in Devina, cabinet, portable, wall and even solar clocks.
The museum was founded in 1975, when the House of the Good Shepherd was rebuilt after the war damage. It is one of the few buildings in Bratislava that has retained its appearance from the time of construction in the 18th century.
The collection, which initially consisted of only 60 exhibits, grew to several thousand over the following years. There is a large collection of middle-class wardrobe clocks. A large part of the accumulated timepieces is signed by Bratislava watchmakers, including the famous Jacob Guldan. Many of them are intricately decorated in a spirit that reflects successive fashions.
